6: When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?
(Disclaimer: Not trying to start a debate here. You can argue if you want but I might not respond.)
Male characters are easier to write for a few reasons.
The complex one being: We, as (often queer) women (who often claim vocally to be feminists), allow men to have more personality variance. We are harsher on female characters (and authors, and actors...), and see our canons as having one-dimensional or otherwise weak female characters. We see the women as irredeemably flawed (we are more than happy to flesh out 1D male characters, but use it as an excuse to ignore female characters), and the men as redeemably flawed (and we like them that way). I, myself, am part of this 'we.' It's an interesting phenomenon and I've spent a lot of time thinking about it. There are lots of possible reasons behind it, but my degree is in music so I won't venture into them.
The easy reason I write male characters is that porn is way more balanced and interesting with men, because both characters have a Tab A and both characters have a Slot B.
