I whined a while back about having to write a Sonnet for my Poetry class. The prof made it very clear he was more interested in form than content, so I figured, what the hell, and wrote it about Star Trek.
IT IS AWFUL. ALSO, IT GOT A 100 POINTS OUT OF 100. NO LIE. \O/
Jim Kirk’s Tour of the Enterprise
(Or: What Happens When Geeky Prose-Writers Have to Write a Sonnet)
[English sonnet in iambic pentameter]
We welcome you to our little tin can.
We think that it’s an awesome place to be.
Of course, it’s rough if you’re the type of man
Who doesn’t like it when he can’t roam free.
But never mind, let’s have the tour here.
The Bridge is where the action always hits.
There’s Helmsman Sulu, he’s a little queer,
And next to him’s where Pavel Chekov sits.
There’s Spock. The pointy ears belie his race,
A stoic sort of people with a way
Of showing little fervor on their face.
And there’s Uhura, who will often say
Though sometimes he can be a right old jerk,
There’s worse Command to serve than Captain Kirk.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU. TIP YOUR WAITRESS AND TRY THE VEAL.
