(no subject)
Aug. 2nd, 2017 05:31 pmI miiiiight have to take one of my FB reading breaks right now. This week maybe just? IDK. I just have a whole. Lot. Of. Anger.
So here goes. You probably don't want to read this. Just... FYI.
---
I'm so fucking sick of people being 'surprised' at things the Trump administration and the GOP have done and continue to do. It implies a lack of guilt, a lack of complicity, and IT'S FUCKING BULLSHIT BECAUSE HE LAID IT OUT FROM THE BEGINNING.
He. Said. He'd. Do. These. Things.
Repeatedly.
His whole life.
So stop fucking saying you're surprised. This was not subtle. This was not a bait n switch. This was the easiest fucking game of connect the dots possible.
THIS IS NOT A SURPRISE.
IT WAS OUT THERE, IT WAS OBVIOUS, AND UNLESS YOU FOUGHT FOR THE VIABLE OPPOSING CANDIDATE FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, YOU HELPED. AND I AM NOT GIVING YOU A PASS BECAUSE YOUR FUCKING IDEALS MATTERED MORE THAN MY ACTUAL GOD DAMN CIVIL RIGHTS.
If you're surprised, past the once, maybe when it was clear people were taking him seriously--I'll give people one because we're human and I guess optimists?-- then you are fucking god damn blissfully ignorant and I blame you. Yes. You.
Because if you're surprised, then you have never had to actually fight against people like Trump. You've never had to actively guard yourself against sexual assault, listen to homophobic slurs, or hold your hands up for a racist justice system. You maybe have seen it happen, thought about how it might happen to you, tsked, and been sad. But you've never had to assume it would happen and take preventative measures. It's never been real.
If the fact that he followed through is a surprise, if you weren't laying down the sandbags at the very beginning, then you are privileged beyond a doubt, and that's all you cared about, or saw, or knew.
Because you either voted against these things, voted for them, or VOTED IN WAY THAT SAID YOU DIDN'T CARE WHETHER THEY HAPPENED OR NOT.
And that. That is FUCKED UP.
He. Said. He'd. Do. These. Things.
You either voted against these things by voting for Hillary, voted for them by voting for Trump, or VOTED/ABSTAINED IN WAY THAT SAID YOU DIDN'T CARE WHETHER THEY HAPPENED OR NOT.
Because it. Was. Not. Stealth.
And you are not blameless.
And I am done giving you a pass.
You're not surprised. You're ashamed.
And you fucking should be.
You.
Helped.
And other people are going to pay the price. I am going to pay the price.
I needed you. I needed you to circle the wagons, to fucking open your eyes and see what we were up against from the very beginning, to say 'who can beat this douchebag and then deal with an opposing congress, because the south and midwest will vote them in no matter what we do so we need someone who can play on that field and get shit done'. I needed you to be reasonable, practical, and DEFEND ME. Defend all women. Defend your god damn daughters.
And you didn't.
So fuck you very much.

And then the even worse thought occurs to me -- Even without Bernie, would Hillary still have lost?
I can't say yes to that, because it would kill the last bit of goodness I believe in. But it's probably the case. Probably Bernie just tapped into something that was already there, a lethal cocktail of idealism and privilege, that would never have accepted Hillary even if they hadn't had Bernie to hold up as the manifestation of those ideals and privilege. Maybe this country really does put women below and aside from men just that much, and I ~myself was just full of idealism and privilege.
Well, I know that last one to be true. And I certainly held some erroneous ideals with regards to friends.
Not anymore.
