Author's summary: Chad’s not exactly a douche-douche. Thalia's thoughts: Now, as a rule, I don't like high school AUs. And this one is full of the same things that make it high school-- cliques, sports, first times, parents, etc. But it is a mature and thoughtful penning of all these things. Not to mention hot.

  • adventures in puppysitting (adult) (~12,000 words)

  • Along the Road to Anywhere (PG-13) (21,812 words)
Author's summary: There’s an old man in east Texas named Jared Padalecki. Every night, he tells the story of his life to 100 or so strangers. He’ll make you believe. / Jensen sits in the audience, front row, and waits for the show to begin.
Thalia's thoughts: So, listen, I maybe have a bit of personal love of stories about age and memory and death. So. Yeah. Read this, and cry. Happy tears, but. Tears.

Will their differences bring them together, or end up tearing them apart?

Author's summary: This is a J2 AU based loosely off of Fox's Bones.

Author's summary: Matthew 26:41—"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Thalia's thoughts: Yes, it's scorchingly hot, blasphemous but loving, angsty priest!Jensen/mechanic!Jared, but what's also remarkable here is how different the narrative voices are; very realistic in how they see and remember things that happen through different lenses. Along the way, he frequently plays matchmaker to those friends he thinks are in need of his assistance, much to the disapproval of his lifelong friend, Jensen. But while Jared considers himself something of an expert at dealing with other people's happy endings, he's having a much harder time figuring out his own, even when it might be right in front of him.

Author's summary: What if Snow White had been a young man? It would not only have been his beauty that was a threat, but his future role as king. What if his best friend was a huntsman's son, and both of their worlds were shattered by the betrayal of a jealous stepfather…
Thalia's thoughts: A well-spun fairy tale is like no other, eh?

  • Impossible Things Before Breakfast (22,500) (R)
Author's summary: In which Jensen is a ninja when it comes to baked goods and Jared magically appears in his kitchen in Wonderland.
Thalia's thoughts: Excellent world-building, a fantastic cast, and an excellent depth. This story is gorgeous.

  • In Becoming Who We Are (NC-17) (~82,700)
Author's summary: Fresh out of school with a degree from the University of Washington, Jensen meets and falls for Jeff Morgan. He may not know what he wants to do with his life, but for the first time since leaving Texas, he feels like things are coming together. Jeff seems like the perfect guy, right up until it all falls apart, and Jensen is left wondering where he went wrong. / A couple failed relationships and a few years later, Jensen's decided that one-night stands are preferable to dates. He's got his friends and his roommate, Sophia, for everything non-sex related, after all. Until Sophia decides to move in with her boyfriend and Jensen's stuck trying to find a new roommate. At Sophia's insistence, Jensen meets Jared Padalecki and the two become fast friends. Only, the more they get to know each other, the more obvious it is that there's something there. But Jensen is unwilling to risk losing Jared's friendship for the possibility of more. Unfortunately, if he doesn't get things figured out, he might lose Jared anyway.
Thalia's thoughts: Admittedly, I have a bias towards this story because it's delightfully set in Seattle, and you can legit tell the author is a resident. But there's also hot sex, fabulous detail within great pacing, and a character arc of Jensen that feels absolutely real. Or maybe I'm just old and can look back on my 20s and say, 'Yeah, that about tears it.' If that's the case, this is still a great sexy romance you'll enjoy. I promise.

  • Insurmountable Odds (R) (6,600+ words)
    Author's summary: [none given]

    Thalia's thoughts: Fucking adorable.

  • Kisses Sweeter Than Wine (NC-17) (~35,000 words)
Author's summary: Texas in July is not exactly where Jensen Ackles has any desire to be, but a job's a job and interviewing Jared Padalecki, the most famous and successful winner of America's Next Celebrity Chef for Saveur magazine isn't something Jensen's going to turn down. He'll do the interview, try not to laugh, and get back on the plane. Jared isn't any happier at the thought of yet another interview with someone who's already made up his mind that Jared's nothing but a pretty face, but the network insists, so fine. He'll do the interview, practice his patience, and be done with it. Funny how things don't quite work out that way.
Thalia's thoughts: Starts out with a bang (:cough:) and is well-paced from there: slow enough to build a world and a relationship, but not so slow you lose interest. And the ensuing additional banging is super sexy. Plus: food.

  • Let's Discuss Something More Productive (PG-13) (1,700 words) and its sequel I find that the truth usually works (R) (1,900 words)
Author's summary: jared's angry, but mike and katie can see right through him, and they know what to do to help.
Thalia's thoughts: The original fic is incredibly well-done, succinct and charming. And the companion/sequel makes it even sweeter.

  • Life's No Fun Without a Good Scare (PG-13) (9,505)
Author's summary: When Jared gets roped into working a Halloween attraction he figures it'll be a simple way to make some quick cash. What he doesn't count on are an insane boss, a weepy serial killer, and pissy cannibals. Oh, and the green-eyed guy he's supposed to murder every night. It's gonna be a long month.
Thalia's thoughts: Super cute! I don't even like Halloween, and I enjoyed this story.

  • Losing Your Appeal (R) (9,000 words)
Author's summary: What happens to a dream deferred? A road trip, a kidney thief, a little too much glamour, and the realization that being brave isn't easy.
Thalia's thoughts: This story efficiently strips down to the heart of the matter, and will leave you inspired. At least, it did me.

  • Low Rising (PG-13]) (no length given)
Author's summary: Jared does laundry. Jensen overreacts. Danneel makes coffee. Harley has issues.
Thalia's thoughts: The show-don't-tell is flawless.

  • Measurable Means (NC-17) (8,000 words)
    Author's summary: [none given]
Thalia's thoughts: I can find no fault with this story. just the right length, pacing, schmoopiness, sexiness, character-depth, tension... It's like a model of what romantic short stories should be.

  • the message of the Buddha (R) (~14,300 words)
Author's summary: When Jared moves in as his roommate, Jensen is annoyed that his perfectly ordered life is turned upside down. And that's just the beginning of the changes in store.
Thalia's thoughts: Super cute! IDK, it's a trope that can be done really badly, but is done very enjoyably here.

  • Nobility's True Badge (NC-17) (17,722 words)
Author's summary: Jared works in a bookshop café, Jensen walks in on the wrong night. And then just keeps walking in.
Thalia's thoughts: THE DIALOGUE. I mean, and it's schmoopy and hot. But. The dialogue.

  • Not the Gumdrop Buttons (NC-17) (12,339 words)
Author's summary: Jared is a gingerbread cookie, Jensen is the chef who loves him to life, and somehow things just get weirder from there.
Thalia's thoughts: Crack of the best (and, of course, sweetest) kind.

  • Numbered Days (PG) (4,600 words)
Author's summary: "You're pretty, he's pretty... you both like dogs. It's fate!"
Thalia's thoughts: DOG. And idk, it's just really nicely written.

  • Of Dice and Jen(sen) (NC-17) (68,984 words)
Author's summary: In 1999, Jensen is a senior at college, his biggest concerns are getting into grad school and planning his next roleplaying game. Everything changes when freshman Jared Padalecki joins the gaming club.
Thalia's thoughts: So, yes, everybody loves this because of the geekiness, which is very charming and all. But what KILLED me was how achingly familiar it all was, because I, too, was in college in the late 90s. Ethernet, room phones, MUDD... /nostalgia.

  • On Your Mark (NC-17) (24,976 words)
Author's summary: Jared is a high-priced assassin working for an underground agency called Admin. When he starts shadowing his latest mark, he gets caught up in a situation beyond his control, and it's up to him to keep the man he's been paid to kill out of the line of fire.
Thalia's thoughts: I love this genre, and this story is well-done. Well-paced, sexy, action-y... Good stuff.

  • Open Mike Night at the Fremont (NC-17) (27,415)
Author's summary: Bookstore AU set in Chicago, with Jared as a sculptor who works out of a garage and Jensen as a bookstore clerk who's trying to get over a tragedy.
Thalia's thoughts: I don't usually do angst or hurt/comfort, and this story is both, so that should tell you something right there. But you'll just like all the characters, despite themselves.

  • paint me a wish on a velvet sky (PG-13) (2,000 words)
Author's summary: Jensen's just the hot tattoo guy Jared likes to perv on through the coffee shop window. That's all.
Thalia's thoughts: Um, yeah, picturing Jensen all tattoo'd up is hot as hell. Makes Jared's gawking totally understandable, and the romance super enjoyable.

  • People-Who-Can't-Stand-Each-Other With Benefits (NC-17) (~4,950 words)
Author's summary: Jared's the only sophomore on the Varsity soccer team, so he thinks he's a little better than dirt, but Jensen Ackles might not agree. But that's okay, because Jensen Ackles is a first-class douchebag.
Thalia's notes: This story has nothing to do with reality whatsoever on any level. And it is glorious. And clearly people agree, because there's a whole 'verse, now.

  • Printer Error (PG-13) (8,146 words)
    Author's summary: [none given]
Thalia's thoughts: The author sets it up so skillfully that you find yourself rooting for Jared/Printer!Jensen. Seriously!

  • The Ramblers (R) (36,566 words)
Author's summary: Jensen Ackles - part time photographer and part time shit kicker - is waist deep in his best friends’ break downs and drug dealings; in dyslexic musicians and disabusing ex-boyfriends. If that’s not enough, he meets Jared Padalecki –a young, breakthrough actor with a bestselling movie to his name – who, awkward but earnest, strives for Jensen’s affections. The safe and sheltered life behind his camera isn’t enough, now, and Jensen’s set to become the star of his own show – whether he’s ready or not.
Thalia's thoughts: The characters are flawed and stunning. A Jensen I connected with, but it's so well-written that even if you don't share that you'll still enjoy the story, and the art is fab.

  • Relax, it's Just Sex (NC-17) (29,000+ words)
Author's summary: JDM.com is an amateur porn website specializing in the "gay education" of straight college guys. Jared's best friend Chad talks him into doing a couple solo videos to help pay his college tuition. What's a little gay porn in the grand scheme of things? And then Jared meets Jensen and everything changes.
Thalia's thoughts: Hot like burning, doi. And Jared's journey through sexuality is totally believable.

  • The Seahorse (NC-17) (36,211 words)
Author's summary: Everything is going fine for Dr. Jensen Ackles, a successful 3rd-year resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Grace's Heart hospital in San Francisco. But when a 22-year-old art student shows up at claiming he's pregnant, Jensen is completely certain he's crazy. After a bunch of tests, a sonogram and a bizarre story about having invoked the wrath of a ram-headed Egyptian fertility god, it turns out that Jared Padalecki isn't joking: he really did get knocked up! And when Jared insists on having an OB-GYN of his own gender, Jensen's long stretch of successfully not falling for one of his patients is finally at an end.
Thalia's thoughts: Now, listen. I understand that this is a crazy-ass premise that sounds like it could never be a readable fic. But. Somehow - it is.

  • So Close to My Heart (NC-17) (15,900 words)
Author's summary: Dr. Jared and single-dad Jensen in Seattle, with love and complications.
Thalia's thoughts: Such fabulous Seattle setting, such a great kid (and I usually don't do kidfic), and such a sweet romance. You'll feel warm and fuzzy when you finish this one.

  • some pieces they adjoin (no rating given) (20.5K words)
Author's summary: He can see what Jensen's trying to show him: a charcoal sketch of Jensen that Jared had done one night when he couldn't sleep and his real work was giving him hell. "From memory?" he asks, and bites at his lip. / Jared crouches low, right in Jensen's space, and says, "I've been looking at you for years, Jensen."
Thalia's thoughts: This story is gorgeous. It's show-don't-tell that paints the most achingly beautiful picture imaginable, and by the end your heart is full.

  • some sweet talking boy (NC-17) (1,400 words)
Author's summary: jensen and jared aren't talking, perhaps because jensen was a dickhead of epic proportions.
Thalia's thoughts: Sharp, clear writing, excellently crafted short story.

  • Something Borrowed, Something Blue (NC-17) (~38,000 words)
Author's summary: When Jared desperately needs a date for his brother's wedding, he hires an escort. Jensen's the perfect fake boyfriend, except pretty soon things get a little too real.
Thalia's thoughts: This is one of my top five tropes/kinks, and here it is done smushingly well. You'll want to draw little hearts all around it.

  • a spotlight on these desolate dreams (adult) (~50,000 words)
Author's summary: In high school, Jared Padalecki had it all. He was surrounded with rich, famous, beautiful friends and partied with young Hollywood's elite. As if all of that wasn't exciting enough, he used the tricks he learned from his grandfather to become an amateur sleuth with his billionaire best friend, Jensen Ackles, playing the role of trusty sidekick. But when he got in over his head and lost everything he once held dear, he knew that it was time to move on. That was ten years ago. Now he lives the lonely life of a hardboiled private investigator on the streets of Manhattan, and his fabulous past is nothing but a distant memory. That is, until a tragedy forces him to return to California and the world he left behind. Between juggling rabid paparazzi, sarcastic detectives, and a spurned ex-best friend, it's a wonder that he can possibly find the time to solve a murder that has left the city of angels reeling.
Thalia's thoughts: It's so richly noir that you will want to smoke a cigarette. I especially loved the pacing: the author deliberately hides things, but not so much that you feel duped.

  • Sure to Lure Someone Bad (NC-17) (no length given)
Author's summary: Jensen plans to take care of his heat the way he normally does: alone. But there’s a stranger on the subway who has a better idea.
Thalia's thoughts: OMFG HFS JFC HOT. FOR. SERIOUS. I just. Can't even. I must've read this story half a dozen times. And I think I'll go read it again.

  • Sweet Dreams Remain (NC-17) (8,300 words)
Author's summary: Jensen is a bartender who has the shit luck of falling for a married man, or the cocktail waitress who ended Jared and Sandy's fabulous marriage.
Thalia's thoughts: Understated without being pretentious or confusing. And the pacing is flawless.

  • a theory of convergence (R) (~24,470 words)
Author's summary: Jared grew up in Barnes, Texas, home of prestigious Wilson College. He knows everyone in town, and they know him. Jensen Ackles, star student of Wilson, is the name everyone knows, but the person nobody does. He's graduating at the top of the class and is leaving town in just twelve weeks for a research fellowship in California. After seeing Jensen around town for four years, Jared finally decides to bite the bullet and ask him out. Nobody is so sure this is a good idea, including Jared's best friends Katie and Danneel, and Jensen's roommate Misha and his brother Josh. Can a college brain and a townie who hasn't quite figured out his next steps fit together? The road is bumpy, but it might just be worth it. (Verrry loose adaptation of the movie Say Anything.)
Thalia's Thoughts: Well, Say Anything is one of my favorite movies of all time, and this story is a great homage with a life of its own.

  • there's a piece of a puzzle known as life (NC-17) (26,000 words)
Author's summary: Sometimes you just can’t help yourself.
Thalia's thoughts: What I like most about this story is the sex. And I don't just mean it's hot--which it is--but... I've read a lot of gay porn, okay. A lot. And written my fair share. But their first sex scene has something you find extremely rarely, and it was used brilliantly. And the rest of them are incredibly hot and uniquely well-written as well.

  • They Stumble That Run Fast (NC-17) (~27,400 words)
Author's summary: This is what happened to Jared Padalecki when he mixed a little Cyrano with a little Shakespeare and fell ass over feet in love with, Jensen, his Shakespeare tutor…who may have been in love with someone else.
Thalia's thoughts: Classic Cyrano, and all the pining, half-overheard conversations, misinformation, and meddling friends of a Shakespearean comedy.

  • Time of Your Life (NC-17) (~30,000 words)
Author's summary: Jensen Ackles doesn't need anyone. His marketing job takes up all his time and lasting relationships are a Hallmark invention. So it totally throws him for a loop when his long-lost best friend from childhood shows up. Except. Jensen is nearly thirty -- and Jared is still eight.
    Thalia's thoughts: Great plot!

  • Twists and Turns and its sequel, And No Two Directions Are Ever the Same (NC-17 overall) (28,600 words total)
Author's summary: Jensen thought he was signing up for cartooning, but accidentally signed up for ceramics, a class that's pretty damn tough when you've only got one working arm. It's worth it to suffer through it, though, because damn the shaggy-haired wheel-throwing teacher is fine...
Thalia's thoughts: A delightful set of stories featuring ceramics!Jared and pained!Jensen. They're just so loveable, you'll want to cuddle them both.

  • Until You Catch On (I'll Hold My Breath) (NC-17) (~35,000 words)
Author's summary: Jensen works for his father's publishing house, a career planned out for him since he was a kid, and parties the nights away with his friends. It's not the life he wants for himself. Then he meets Jared, who makes him look at his life in a new way, pushes him in the right direction. Everything would be perfect, really, if only Jensen wasn't in love with Jared, because he's absolutely sure that Jared doesn't see him as anything but a friend.
    Thalia's thoughts: A cute, introspective rom-com.

  • up against the world, it's you and me (NC-17) (~7,000 words)
Author's summary: Flying to school is Jared’s favorite part of day.
Thalia's thoughts: Freaking ADORABLE, and a brilliant little world.

  • What About the Heart That You Promised The Tin Man? (PG-13) (30,572 words)
Author's summary: Jared Padalecki is a regular guy who runs into Jensen (literally) after watching a falling star crash into a lake. Jensen is more than meets the eye (while also being easy on the eyes) and he drags poor Jared into the plot of a sci-fi action movie.
    Thalia's thoughts: Amazing sci-fi premise well-executed.

  • You Go To My Head (NC-17) (35,765 words)
Author's summary: The year is 1938, and Jared Padalecki has just bought a small vineyard in the midst of Depression-era California. He has poured his heart and soul into working the land and creating the perfect wine, but he is still struggling to make ends meet. When he hires a drifter named Jensen to help during the summer harvest, he thinks his biggest problem is coming up with the money to pay Jensen's wage, but he soon finds himself inexplicably drawn to the mysterious man. Jensen's got street smarts and a mean right hook, but he's unprepared for the challenge of fighting off Jared's advances as well as his own simmering attraction. Jared's attention threatens to uncover the dark past Jensen left behind in Chicago, a past he's been running from, and a past that is about to catch up with them both...
Thalia's thoughts: The setting is really lovely, the descriptive tone beautiful.

    Jared/Jensen crack

  • Imprint (R) (no length given)
Author's summary: In a world where love at first sight is a documented scientific phenomenon, and potentially lethal, Jared and Jensen still meet for the first time when they've both been chosen for Supernatural; things just go a little differently after that.
Thalia's thoughts: Such a great concept.

  • No Substitution (adult) (~5,300 words)
Author's summary: Jensen's an Omega who's never once felt the desire to bend over for an Alpha. Until he meets Jared.
Thalia's thoughts: Hot like only this trope can be.

  • Not (no rating given) (no length given)
    Author's summary: [none given]
Thalia's thoughts: The Come to Jesus knotting fic. Sets up an incredibly compelling universe with brevity and skill. Oh, and is hot as hell.

  • The Puzzle (That is Me) (PG-13) (19,700 words)
Author's summary: As they start filming and working together, Jared realizes Danneel’s prediction was right. He and Jensen do hit it off. Sure Jensen is quirky and sometimes (okay, a lot of times) uncomfortably direct to the point of being rude. But once Jared figures out Jensen isn’t actually mean as much as he’s just a little clueless (and mostly unconcerned) about the rules of social interactions, it stops bothering him.
Thalia's thoughts: I don't know shit about Asperger’s, but to me this seems really respectfully written, and it's fascinating.
