I know you know this (I'm just catching up on the flist), but I LOVED IT SO MUCH. It was everything good about Star Trek, with a sprinkling of fandom thrown in. What I loved also, was that it was a film I thought that 'original' fans (even those original fans who are somewhat ungenerous about 'new' fans) could enjoy, what with it being basically an old school tv episode given a 200m dollar budget and a 2 hour slot, and also so respectful to newer fans and the stuff that is important to us. Even the shippier scenes (BE STILL MY HEART THE BIRTHDAY DRINKS OMG) felt like they were a nice nod to current fandom, without being meaningless fanservice as such. Like we're part of it all, rather than something outside to be appeased or maligned, depending on who's talking. Ugh, I don't know what I'm on about - I just LOVED IT OK. I need to see it again in 2D and not at midnight because I'm sure there's a ton of stuff that I missed.
