WOW. This is... tough, for somebody who has 123 works on AO3. I thought about doing one from each fandom, which, well, would be fair I think, but I liked the challenge. And honest to God, when I stop complifying and just kind of feel it, it turns out the one that always come to mind is the same. And it's one of my least-read stories, lol, where Jared Padalecki has a tiny dick and there are poop jokes and. And I love it. It's real, it's eloquent, it's sexy, it's full of love and laughter, and it's wonderful.

WELL. ACTUALLY. lol. I can say I'm working on something, which is weird, because I've just plain not been very active in writing for like... a few years. This year is by far my lowest-producing, though. But I've figured out that I can write on my phone while walking to and from work (and like, waiting in line, on the toilet, you name it) and IT'S FANTASTIC.

So, right now it's Leverage, an Eliot/Hardison fake boyfriends tropefic. Because I ~can. ;)

You know, I have (and I'm here assuming this is outside the bounds of a Big Bang, because that's already been discussed) and it was terrible. Because *I* am terrible. Or at least was, in my 20s, pretty much period. Unreliable, mercurial, terrible to work with.

Also, writing a series with a romantic partner was... was fruitful, but painful. I know I should let myself be open to doing it again, because art and life are pain and there is no joy without the terrible but god. Did it hurt.

My handwriting is terrible and cannot keep up with my brain nearly as fast as my typing (~100wpm), but there is something charming about writing longhand, isn't there? The modern version I've found is writing on my phone in gdocs; it's just as freeing as writing longhand. And just as slow, lol.

Weeellll. I'm ADHD so I have to have some sort of aural stimulation or else my brain sputters out. But I'm also a musician born and bred so it has to be something particular or else it distracts me. So, either something I've heard a zillion times, or something with no English words. E.g. I'm really fond of the Baroque Choral channel on Pandora, or the Anonymous4 channel.

Do I make playlists? If I have time for such procrastination, lol, yes I do. Or if a song just keeps banging at my brain while I'm writing, I put it in the notes somewhere. Or steal the title from it. XB

24: Betaing: How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?

Man I wish I could have like five on each! But karmically that doesn't work so well, ya feel me? I don't have time to be that for other people.

The only bad memories that come to mind are when I was stressed out by ~being a beta (biting off more than i can chew, ugh). Good memories? The rest of them. It's a service we offer for zero reward, so any help is good help.

23: When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?

This question is fascinating, considering how long I've been in fandom.

First was, and I will not even lie about it. It's where stuff was. Particularly, Harry Potter stuff. There, someone from a Ron/Hermione archive invited me to start posting at said archive, which I happily did. I posted my HP stuff at a couple archives. (I think it's still up at a couple, even, lol.)

Then livejournal happened, lol. And other fandoms, for which I did not have a place to post other than livejournal, such as Sports Night. There were livejournal communities for everything, sometimes multiple, so I posted to the most applicable one directly and linked everywhere else. This was something I did that was apparently unusual? Most people posted to their personal/personal fic journals then linked at communities. I don't regret it though; having all those comments archived at [ profile] pinecity is literally priceless -- some of them are from a friend who is now deceased. I did end up posting at my own journal then linking elsewhere (because it's been an issue since I went f'locked, lol) but I'm not really sure why. Just withdrawing, I think.

At times in there I tried to post to others, both insanejournal and dreamwidth, but wow did I not like both platforms, and what was the point? I've had a livejournal since 2003. It's for better or worse at this point, and I ain't even mad.

Then AO3 happened! I resisted, because the ease of giving something kudos would and did lead to the dwindling of comments given, but in the wake of Tumblr AO3 is a magnificent place. So all of my things are there, minus I think maybe some really twee drabbles. At this point, I expect to be an unknown author, as fandom fame involved Tumblr and way more time than I have right now, so I just like having all of my stuff in one place for my own sake.

22: Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

Yes! I have done many kinds of fests. Short-word-count fests are fun and easy and fruitful: P-Thon not only got me some of my greatest Merlin friends, but some of my greatest Merlin works.

With regard to Big Bangs in particular: My overall response was immediately 'I love them!' But looking back, it wasn't always thus -- I'm really terrible at writing long things, and didn't have the discipline to do so until the past couple years. So I bailed on a lot of them, but not late enough that anyone else was affected. BUT. I have managed to complete a few! Four now, wooo!

My favorite experience with BBs is a tie: I did an RPF big bang that not only got me one of my greatest stories, but incredible art. (Parallel Motion) And the most recent Merlin reverse big bang was amazeballs, because a) the art omg and b) the artist herself was just INCREDIBLE to work with and helped me out a LOT on her own time, despite being busy. 21: Sequels: Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

Erm. I am not a fan of sequels. I have done a couple, but they don't turn out well, I don't think. If I've written the story I was supposed to write, a sequel just isn't possible. It's like how my sophomore English teacher would often get to the 'so what' statement at the end of our five paragraph essays and say, 'That should be your thesis. Start over.'

The exception, I suppose, is the Frat Boy series. But it's of dubious literary quality, lol, was an accidental series spawned by my ex-co-author, and DOES have a finite ending planned.

Erm. I... don't... know? Every time I get asked this question, I draw a blank.

Let's put it this way: I like prompts a lot. In fact, I feel like everything around me is a prompt. Often I write thinly veiled allegory of my own life and shit I'm trying to work out, or shit I wish would happen. Sometimes a fandom person will be like 'OMG WHAT ABOUT THIS' and then I get all excited. I honestly don't feel like I have any ideas myself. It all comes from other places.

BANE OF MY EXISTENCE. Like, they're either song lyrics or so 'poetic' that they make no sense to anyone but me.

Example: 'Parallel Motion' is an overeducated music theory reference about two lines of music moving in tandem a certain distance apart. (It's actually considered bad, most of the time, iirc, but I conveniently ignored that for the symbolism.)

Oh and I don't really write chaptered fic? I prefer Atwood style breaks for emphasis. In a few circumstances I have subtitled sections if there is a theme, which is fun.

Oh god. Well. I think they're important, I really do. A well-crafted blurb is a beautiful thing. So for big fics, I will do them. I'm good at them when I put my mind to it (the summary for Parallel Motion is a thing of freaking beauty). But they take brain power, and for short stuff... for short stuff I usually take a page from Friends, lol, and say 'the one with the ____'. XB

Uh. Well. This is also kind of a loaded question, meme, because one person's squick is another person's fap. But. I do warn for things like suicide, homophobia, depression... Things that people might want to click back from in a fantasy world because we get enough of it IRL.

I'd say mpreg in an RPF is the weirdest thing I've ever warned for. Which, in this wide fandom world, is not that weird.

I also warned for opera once. Because, you know. Opera.

So, here's a not-secret: I blush when I write porn. But I like reading it, and I know it's a draw, so I write it. I feel like I'm terrible at it, of course. (I mean, I barely ~like penises.) And I do like a well-done fade-to-black. You have to go where the pacing and arc are telling you to go, though.

One of my favorite compliments was on a story where there was porn but it was like, secondary, and the reader loved how it was unobtrusive but added to the story in an important way and I was so very very flattered. ^^

Wow, that's a loaded fucking question. There's nothing inherently wrong with tweaking canon, but I prefer not to. Partially because that's the bigger challenge: How to make this non-canon (usually homogay) pairing work without breaking the bounds of canon credulity?

Hell yes. I first did an arguably not-great J2 Ocean's #, then a couple years later I did an (in my opinion) pretty freaking awesome Merlin 'While You Were Sleeping'. I think that's all. OH NO WAIT. I did a Merlin 'Sports Night' for P-Thon, and although that's a tv show I'm including it, because it's kind of amazing. XB

Basically the first one taught me what not to do, which is why the second and third went well. I think it's an awesome idea that can be done very badly and very well and everything in between, just like everything else.

Romantic comedies are my thing. Which usually involve angst and drama but seriously, I'm here for the sex and happy endings. I have watched enough 90s movies and read enough romance novels that the pace and tropes just slide onto the page.

I have done other things, I like to think. But they are much, much harder for me to produce.
